On June 13, at 19.00, on the stage of the Embassy of Latgale GORS a place will take the remembrance concert in honor of the maestro Imants Kokars – the innovator and developer of the Latvian and world choir music, author of the idea of the Nordic - Baltic Choral Festival, founder of the internationally recognized chamber choir Ave Sol, composer, promoter or the creativity, compiler of the anthology of the Latvian choir music.
Twin brothers Imants and Gido Kokars have become the loved and admired conductors by the nation, as well as the most erudite connoisseurs of the world choir culture. Both, Imants and Gido, with their personalities, great strength and charm, had guided people to the creative work in the choirs. They have spread in the world the name of Latvia as a musical country.
"We sing in order to find in a song the freedom of the spirit and the peace of the heart. The Song Festival is the stronghold of the Latvian sound, that keeps the spirit of the Latvian nation still alive,” said by Imants Kokars.
In the late autumn of 2011, in remembrance of the deceased maestro Imants Kokars and in honor of his achievements, in the concert of June 13, the compositions of the great composerts of the choir music will be performed by Riga chamber choir Ave Sol, Rezekne men choir “Graidi” and “Latvijas diriģentu koris”, participating the soloists: Ilona Haņina (voice), Asnate Rancāne (voice) and Ilze Dzērve (piano).
The program is created of the list of the most outstanding examples of Imants Kokars – the songs, that were composed by Pēteris Barisons, Antons Brukners, Pauls Dambis, Lūcija Garūta, Jurjānu Andrejs, Alfrēds Kalniņš, Imants Kalniņš, Juris Karlsons, Luka Marencio, Emilis Melngailis, Raimonds Pauls, Pēteris Plakidis, Urmass Sisasks, Georgijs Sviridovs, Imants Ramiņš, Rihards Vāgners, Jāzeps Vītols and others. The Artistic Director of the concert – Mārtiņš Klišāns. A step on the conductor`s podium will take more than ten outstanding conductors of Latvia – the students of Imants Kokars and the great conductors of the Song Festival, including Jānis Baltiņš, Aira Birziņa, Uldis Kokars, Roberts Liepiņš, Edgars Račevskis, Ints Teterovskis, Andris Veismanis, Jānis Zirnis and others.
This is the year we celebrate the 20th anniversary of the Nordic - Baltic Choral Festival. The author of the festival idea is the brilliant Latvian conductor Imants Kokars. During these years, the festival has taken place in all of the member-countries – Estonia, Iceland, Lithuania, Norway, Finland, and Sweden. The anniversary year is the reason for the festival to be repeatedly organized by Latvia.
